Our Bed, 2012
Both urban and suburban landscapes abound with interstitial space. These spaces are often ripe with possibility, but are seen as fruitless. The question arises of ownership vs. occupancy. Does unoccupied interstitial space belong to the community or the landlord? Is unoccupied space, which is unable to yield community use, unethical? Our Bed was a temporary installation at the CAA Conference at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Participants were encouraged to take a seed paper flower to plant in undeveloped spaces and in return would plant a paper flower in the concrete-like installed boards.
